Finally! Rain in the catchment

A heavy cloud band moving over Brisbane from the west is expected to deliver between 20 and 50 millimetres of rain this morning after drenching Ipswich last night.

Since 9am yesterday areas west of Brisbane notched falls of between 35 and 66mm, with Brassall, Rosewood and Amberley giving the highest readings.

In Brisbane the most substantial falls have occurred in the north and west.

Forty-nine millimetres fell over Aspley, 31mm over Mt Coot-tha and 30mm over Kenmore Hills.

Good falls over the Pullenvale and Brookfield areas have caused flooding over the low-lying Rafting Ground Road at Brookfield.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Jeff Doueale said good falls had been recorded in the catchment areas overnight after the rain band tracked east from the Darling Downs.

"In the catchment areas we've had between about 15mm and 84mm, the highest at Cressbrook Dam in the upper reaches of the Wivenhoe," Mr Doueale said.

"In the last 24 hours in higher parts of the Somerset (Dam) catchment there have been falls of between 30 and 60mm."

Brisbane could expect rainfall in the order of 20 to 50mm, he said.

At 5am the Bureau issued its second road weather alert in as many days.

Motorists were warned to take extreme care in poor visibility and with water pooling on the city's roads.
